What Are the Submarine Cable?

Submarine cables are cables laid on the seabed and wrapped with insulating materials. There are two main types: communication cables and power cables. With the development of manufacturing, submarine cables use fiber optic technology to transmit telephone and Internet signals. The submarine cable project is an important part of the construction of the cross-sea networking project, and it is of great significance in the process of realizing the internationalization of the power grid and the interconnection of regional power grids.

Mainly Consists Parts of the Submarine Cable:

Insulation: The insulation of the cable provides an effective barrier against extremely high potential differences between the inner and outer potential surfaces.

Conductor shielding and insulating shielding: The conductor shielding is composed of extruded semiconducting materials, which eliminates the electric field concentration on the conductor surface, prevents partial discharge caused by the gap between the insulating layer and the conductor, and improves the working field strength of the cable. The insulating shield is composed of extruded semi-conductive material, which is extruded on the insulating layer of each cable core to play a uniform electric field and prevent partial discharge caused by the gap between the insulating layer and the metal shield.

Water Blocking Jacket: Insulation must be protected from moisture ingress to maintain dielectric strength. High-voltage submarine cables have metal sheaths, such as lead alloy sheaths, composite aluminum sheaths, etc.

Armor: Armor is an important structural element of submarine cables, providing mechanical protection and stability under tension. Armoring also needs to provide adequate mechanical protection against external threats posed by fishing gear and anchors.

Outer layer: The outer layer is used to protect the submarine cable armor during transportation and deep-buried installation. Usually, the outer covering of submarine cables is in the form of polypropylene rope. They protect cables during cable pulling or laying. At the same time, the outer layer must be marked, usually marked with a yellow PP rope, so that the underwater robot can identify the submarine cable and facilitate the installation and maintenance of the submarine cable.
